Brother David Cloud has an excellent article full of warnings about sports of all kinds and levels. I’ve felt for a long time that organized sports are contrary to the principles of the Bible, and since Brother Cloud has said these things better than I have, I encourage all sports fans who profess Christ to take a good read through, Bible (not sports memorabilia) in hand.
And remember: Sports are much more fun when experienced for yourself. Why encourage the stars to go out and do what you could do yourself? No one’s paying you billions of dollars a year (while children starve and missionaries struggle to cover expenses) to go out and hit a ball, run in a circle, and autograph stuff!
