Site Too Slow for Ya?

You may have noticed that this site, as well as others ran in entirely or in part by Beckman Ministries (me), has been intermittently responding quite slowly. I’ve experienced load times in excess of 30 seconds on the Beckman Ministries home page, and it’s a static page–nothing dynamically generated at all!

So what’s the deal? Check out Anatomy of an Ongoing Disaster, at the Official Dreamhost blog. Dreamhost is our, well, host, and we like them a lot. We have a truck load of space and bandwidth (even with all the sites we have, we’re using less than 1% of both space and bandwidth), tech support is quick to reply to anything, the hosting admin panel is awesome, and the prices are reasonable for what we have.

Disasters happen, and I do plan to stick with Dreamhost unless by some miracle $100/month can be obtained solely for hosting, in which case I’d jump ship for a nice dedicated server somewhere.

Regardless, at least there is reason for the slowness, and from what tech support told me, it is definitely a problem on their end, one which they are in contact with Cisco about, as one (or more?) of their routers is spazzing out, which explains (apparently) the temporary interrupts in pleasant service.

So, if the sites are slow to respond, please be patient. And if they don’t respond at all the first time, keep trying.
