Proverbs 16:4

I admit to having never read anything pro-Calvinism except brief selections from Calvin’s Institutes… and portions of the Westminster Confession. So I am not surprised I have never heard this verse as being pro-election as Calvinists understand it.

The LORD has made all for Himself, yes, even the wicked for the day of doom. Proverbs 16:4, NKJV

It is amazing how much a preconceived idea of freewill concerning salvation can influence one’s view of the Bible. I let church, friends, and those I studied after convince me that Calvinistic election was the craziest thing in the world. But embracing Sola Scriptura and looking at the matter freshly within the Bible itself, I am amazed at just how much emphasis is given throughout the Bible to the fact that God has foreordained certain unto salvation and certain unto the “day of doom.”

I still have questions. I probably always will. But it feels wonderful learning about God and His work in salvation in a manner that makes it all seem brand new again!
