According to an Associated Press story which I’ve seen pop up on news sites from here in Indiana and more recently in Pakistan, a new Swedish trend in fashion has people wearing jeans which sport a skull as the logo.
What has raised the eyebrow of many, though, is that in the middle of the skull’s forehead is displayed an upside-down cross, a recognizable antichristian symbol. Bjorn Atldax, the logo designer, says that, “It is an active statement against Christianity,” while others (including the manufacturers) feel that it is a joke or simply a nice logo.
What says the word of God? Very simple passages come to mind: “Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22) and “He that is not with me is against me” (Matthew 12:30).
I don’t see how the upside-down cross receives so much attention when scripturally it means nothing. There are far worse fashion trends out there (most women’s clothing I see in stores comes to mind), which unfortanately Christians have become accustomed to and apathetic toward.
