Homosexuality is now legal in CA, and it is more important than ever for Christians to have a right understanding of the biblical definition of marriage, but is it “1 Man + 1 Woman” like the bumper stickers say? Is polygyny valid? Join the debate.
James White responds to a brief comment made by John Piper on the subject of James White. I’m inclined to agree with White on this one, no disrespect meant to Piper.
I think a little liberty was taken in the definition. Acts against me, were grouped in with acts against members of my family who I have a biblical responsibility to protect on pain of being worse than an infidel.
I can choose to show Christ-likeness to criminals who’ve offended me, I am Christs, in life or death I am to glorify Christ. Can I glorify Christ, while ushering those into eternity those who would do me harm? Jesus was not concerned about his own safety, nor may I say, particularly alarmed about that of his disciples. His words, “put up your sword in its’ sheath” do not sound like those of a retributive, self defending vigilante. Why? Because he knew everything, and was Omnipowerful and completely in control.
He, more so than any man to have lived, might have ushered the souls of those creeping around through the garden for him into eternity post-haste. But he did not.
Many Christians in their militant meism, have mentally stripped God of his power. He is as powerful, and as in control of the situation as he was when he parted the Red Sea to deliver Israel from the power of those who would have killed them. What is less strong is our faith in the providence of God.
