Introductory Post

Hi, and welcome to Timothy’s Burden. Our name comes from the song “Timothy’s Burden” by the gospel music group the Martins. And the best scripture that I can find stating what Timothy’s burden was comes from 2 Timothy:

I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 4:1-2

Our domain name ( also has its roots in scripture, though the references are far too numerous to go through here. Jesus used the phrase a couple times, referring to His Second Coming. Paul too uses the words in one of my favorite passages:

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6

As Paul continues, he instructs the believers at Thessalonica in a similar manner to the charge he gave to Timothy, which you can read in verses 11 through to the end of the chapter, more or less.

All of this is connected to Paul’s “let us watch and be sober” of verse 6. Jumping back to 2 Timothy, we are told to “watch thou in all things” (4:5).

So because the time of the end is closer now than in Paul’s day, because the time has come when people do not endure sound doctrine and choose teachers which scratch their itching ears… Watch therefore.

We accept Timothy’s Burden, and on this blog you will find reproofs, rebukes, exhortations, and doctrine. Our audience, like Timothy’s, will be our fellow brethren wherever these words may be read.

Currently our founder and only author is Rick Beckman, of Beckman Ministries. We may add more authors as those “profitable to me for the ministry” (2 Timothy 4:11) are found.

Welcome to Timothy’s Burden.
