I Am Thankful

I am thankful first and foremost for the undeserved gift of grace Yahweh has bestowed upon me through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. That gift more than any other I take for granted for too often — I told you, the gift was undeserved. But I am thankful. I am thankful that I do not need to work to appease an angry God, but can rest in Jesus Christ who has become my Sabbath by doing all the work for me, by keeping the Law of Yahweh on my behalf. I could never deserve any of this, for I have sinned. For saving my soul from myself, I am thankful.

I am thankful for my wife, Alicia. I don’t feel as though I deserve her either, and am extremely thankful that she has stuck with me through over a half decade of change; I’m not the same man she fell in love with — back then I was a blinded-by-tradition legalist who spoke viciously about those who didn’t uphold the same standards that I held so dear. Alicia has stuck by me and has been a trusted friend, an understanding wife, and so much more. For her love — for her — I am thankful.

I am thankful for my family. For a father who never tried to turn me into a sports fan but instead taught me the value of thinking and challenging one’s beliefs, lessons which have enriched my life more than any grand slam from the free-throw line at the Superbowl ever could. For a mother who has always been there for me, no matter how misbehaved I could be as a kid and especially a teen, for always being right about the big issues I’ve faced, even if I didn’t always pay attention. And for a sister who has always been my friend, always made me laugh, and has always inspired me to be better than I am.

I am thankful for my good friends Sandi & Michelle, for making work enjoyable, for making my wife and I a part of their families. For becoming much more than the “crazy Cars toys ladies” whom I kept up to date with the latest collector news I could find. For absorbing all the sarcasm and often deflecting it right back at me.

I am thankful for Chris and DIYthemes and for the opportunities my involvement has brought, for the contacts I have made, for the people I have met, for all that I have learned.

I’m thankful for so many others in my life that it’d be difficult to list them all here… For my extended family, my step family, my in-laws. For my coworkers, and for my friends, whether local or not. For all the authors of all the blogs I have enjoyed and been enriched by.

For you, my readers.

For my fellow brethren worldwide, for they too have received the same grace as I, the grace which comes by faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.
