How Christians Lost the War against Homosexuality

It’s over. Done. Finito. In state after state, nation after nation, homosexuals are winning acceptance. Gay pride is all the rage. It’s everywhere, and it’s impossible to ignore, regardless of how you feel about it.

How did this happen? It’s certainly not for lack of trying on our (Christians’) part, is it? I mean, we’ve thrown our best & brightest at the problem (you know, George W. Bush & Sarah Palin), yet for some reason victory just hasn’t been found.

And how amazing that we’ve lost this war given our radical, life-changing, super awesome protests!

So how did we lose?

We got distracted. We should have been able to keep the issue simple, but we got dragged into a war of pragmatism & egalitarianism.

“Kids need a mommy & a daddy!” screams one side, while the other side points out all the healthy, well adjusted children of homosexual parents.

“Homosexuality leads to broken families!” screams one side, while the other points to the overwhelming number of failed hetero unions.

“Homosexuality is unnatural!” screams one side, while the other points out the overwhelming amount of strictly unnatural behavior that everyone, including heterosexuals, participating in. Oh, and gay penguins. I mean, everybody loves penguins, and just how awesome are fabulous penguins, am I right?

“You shall not eat of the fruit … lest you die,” proclaims one side. “You will not surely die,” counters the other.

See what the serpent did there? He distracted Eve from what God said (“You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden”) by focusing on the practical aspect of it; “of course you’re not going to die; that’s crazy talk!”

We Christians are distracted today, and we have been far too long. We’ve allowed ourselves to be drawn into a debate of consequence, of practicality. The debate has coalesced into a battle of statistics & experience.

It’s as if nobody cares about God’s actual command; we only care about the consequences of it. We’ve allowed ourselves to buy into an idealism that says that if we’re obeying God by being straight, then we’ll have perfect marriages with perfect children.

How then are we then to handle matters when homosexual defenders present us with what by all matters of practicality are perfect relationships, perfect children, and so on?

That’s the problem with arguing on the grounds of practicality; everyone can be right.

Even the serpent. After all, the day they ate of the fruit, Adam & Eve didn’t drop dead, right? In their eyes, the serpent was correct. Never mind the fact that God spoke to them concerning a spiritual death, the results of which we’ve been suffering as a race ever since.

We lost the war because we have ceased focusing on God’s commands & have instead focused upon consequence.

We’ve lost sight of “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination” and instead have drawn into a debate of egalitarianism which calls into question “they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them” (Levitius 20:13).

Can the situation be reversed? While I believe that anything is possible, I don’t think we ought to concern ourselves in this war of cultures which tends to bring out the worst in us. May we engage people as friends & neighbors, sharing with them the Gospel so that their lives may be transformed.

Once they are truly alive, we can trust the Holy Spirit to lead them to the truth regarding homosexuality. God has spoke it to Moses, and He speaks it forevermore.

When we know that God is fighting these battles for us, we know that the victory is already had.

And we’ll never again have to resort to protest signs again.

  1. Dude, I gotta ask, and sory for using the comment field but you dont have any contact information that I can find, but biblical demonologist… how… what.. waa???

    I’d love to read a blog post on that since I’ve never heard of any demological reseach outside of the keys of solomon and/or Crowley which has little to do with biblical christianity as I’ve understood it.

    And a blog post that explains the Christian polygamy defence since I’m a poly-sexual, poly-amore bisexual. Yes yes, I’ll burn in hell and all that, I’m fine with that rather than denying my true nature and be living in hell on earth, okillidokillydo?
    Great!

    But I am seriously interested in the defence, since it’s a new take on the subject that I haven’t seen before, and you seem to be a level headed Christian blogger who can take an honest and enlightened discussion without resulting in name calling and preaching.

  2. Indeed, many Christians are distracted these days; for they have their minds set on worldly things, craving entertainment and lavish living. They say they know Jesus, but their actions speak otherwise.

    And some have assumed a position in the battle that no Christian is meant to occupy, seeking to defeat sin when it is only our responsibility to lead people to Christ. We can only set an example of what it means to walk with God, but we can’t make people godly. People must choose to become what God wants they to be.

    Jesus said, “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Luke 17:26-30 KJV)

    What is happening is exactly what is supposed to happen. It’s not that God wanted it to be this way, of course. Nevertheless, it is happening because the influence of Satan is still present in the world.

    Therefore we must be on our guard, as people are becoming more and more wicked by the day. Children are being groomed for destructive living and their parents are either too busy to take notice of what’s happening or they simply don’t care.

    Jesus Christ is the only one who can save us from this mess. Indeed, it is a battle; yet the war has already been won. Victory became apparent at the cross when Jesus had said, “It is finished.” It’s just that many don’t realize that, which is why they continue to live in fear, fighting for things that they were never meant to hold onto forever.

    By the way, while it is true that Adam and Eve didn’t die immediately after eating the forbidden fruit, they were filled with shame as they became aware of their nakedness. Unfortunately, instead of going to God in repentance they ran and hid from Him, refusing to admit that it was by their own choice that they had sinned.

    The same thing is happening today; that is, people are looking for all kinds of excuses to not be accountable for the evil that they are doing. For example, some say that they were born to be homosexuals, thus giving the impression that God made them that way. But if God meant for them to be that way then why would He oppose such a lifestyle?

    They are deceived and have failed to realize that the presence of sin made them that way, not God. Instead of trying to justify such behavior they should seek to find its root. God will open their eyes to this knowledge, but they will have to stop running and hiding first. It’s a matter of surrendering to Jesus Christ.

  3. The “war” was lost in 1791.

    “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion”

    You admit that the only unarguable premise against homosexuality is God’s word. Given that, for the state to make homosexuality a crime is to establish a religion.

  4. The 1st Amendment thing doesn’t hold up on a state-level, though. For decades after the ratification of the Bill of Rights, individual states had various religiously motivated laws (some states even had mandated church attendance on Sunday). So long as these laws weren’t forced nationally, the nation was still seen as free; one could always be an American still by moving to a less religious state. The only thing that has changed since is that now every state is expected to have the same copy/pasted expectations as every other. It matters not how right or wrong that is, just that it is how things are these days.

    So because of that, yes, I accept Senior’s explanation, so far as the politics of it go. But the social aspect of it could still be “won,” i.e., just because something is legal doesn’t mean it need be socially acceptable.

    Well, then the date is 1868 when the 14th amendment extended the constitutional protections.

    “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

  6. That would be more relevant, yes, but there again, simply because something was legal doesn’t mean it would or should be culturally acceptable… and it’s that cultural war of the minds which those who believe Christians must restructure society have lost.

  7. why do you leave out in your discussion what GOD SAID in lev, that slavery is good.

    and 1 kings “those who solomon could not kill in battle he conscripted into his slavelabor camps.”

    yet under the new covenant of christ slavery is an UNTOLERABLE EVIL, because of its violation of the 2nd commandment (love neighbor)

    why dont you also include num15: 32-36 where moses as personnally directed by, god stoned a man for collecting firewood on the sabath.

    under the new covenant of christ both household chores and household chores on the sabbath are permissable.

  8. I left them out of the above post because they are irrelevant to the discussion of homosexuality. Why confuse the issue with other topics? That’s exactly what Christians should avoid when discussing issues.

  9. Many Christians nowadays got distracted because of the things that is being present in the surroundings. That is why some people don’t know what they are up to. With that matter, homosexuals really are winning because it is already legal to some countries. It is very difficult to make the homosexual lovers separate, they don’t even listen to the word of God anymore as long as they can be together with their partners. If I were to choose, of course I won’t let homosexuals be present in this world. I agree that children do need a mother and a father, not mothers, nor fathers. But I think homosexuals really believe, that love really conquers all.
