This Site is Green!

Okay, aesthetically, the site isn’t very green at all. However, my awesome host, DreamHost, is a carbon-neutral, green web hosting solution. By extension, that means the Rick Beckman archive is green. Neat!

DreamHost Green Site

  1. What about having your web site powered by solar….AISO.Net (http://www.aiso.net) is 100% solar powered, both their servers and data center are powered by onsite solar panels. And they also have a partnership with Co-Op America, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Green Building Council. Plus, they are doing more then just making sure their electricity is green. Their data center and office is green too by using environmentally friendly air conditioners, solar tubes to bring in natural light, a propane powered generator instead of diesel, VMWare virtualization to reduce their server electricity usage, 6 watt energy saving desktop computers for their employees, and soon to be LEED certified as a green data center, the only public one in North America, at least that I have found so far.

    1. Why not switch to them? Well, I already have green hosting for one…

      For two, I’m only paying $15.95/mo. I see that AISO offers $9.95/mo. plans, so let’s compare to their best shared hosting plan ($24.95/mo.).

      Here’s what I have vs. what they offer:

      * Disk space: 489.744 GB vs. 0.5 GB
      * Bandwidth: 5.648 TB vs. 0.015 TB
      * Databases: Unlimited (currently using 9) vs. 2
      * Email accounts: 12,000 vs. 500

      And more.

      Frankly, I really, really like Dreamhost. :)
