God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
The impression I get from the Scriptures is that names are of particular importance to God. They often carried a particular meaning, a meaning which should not be ignored when studying the Bible. Perhaps most notable was that the Messiah was called “Emmanuel,” meaning “God with us” — no more concise description of the Incarnation could be given than Emmanuel! Likewise, even the Messiah’s given name, Jesus, was the Greek counterpart to “Joshua,” meaning “salvation of the Lord.” No more apt name could have been given the Savior!
Whether renaming Abram to Abraham or Simon to Peter, the Lord makes a point of the names of things. And He here names the “light” and the “dark” (which were separated from one another in the previous verse).
To the light the Creator gave the name “Day.” The word is possibly derived from a root meaning “warm,” which makes sense enough; but the word itself? Well, no surprises, but it means “day.”
The darkness he called “Night,” and while that name also doesn’t carry any sort of special meaning, I found interesting what Strong’s Concordance said about the word, that the Hebrew word used here for “Night” comes from another word which means “to
Isn’t that interesting? The Night — the darkness which God separated from the light — can no longer mingle with the light. It’s nature is wholly different. To the ancients, the darkness twists and writhes away from the light; nowadays we know that “darkness” isn’t a thing in and of itself but is instead the absence of light.
I think that modern knowledge helps us to understand the nature of light and dark in the Scriptures. It’s obvious enough what happens at night — due to the earth’s rotation, the sun’s light is no longer able to fall upon the “night” portion of the planet.
But light and dark are much deeper than that. Read with me a portion of the Gospel of John:
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. 20For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been carried out in God.
Can you see it there? Even within man darkness hates light — it twists away from it, seeks to suppress it, does whatever it can so that its evil will not be exposed. Do you ever wonder why unbelievers despise our Savior? Do you ever wonder why the world seeks to silence Christians and the Gospel to which they bear witness?
It is because where the light is, darkness cannot exist. In nature, that works fine — day and night
Before we move on to the next part of this verse, it is important that it be noted that by naming the light “Day” and the darkness “Night,” God provides us with very simple definitions which we must not forget as we progress through the chapter.
And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
The first day of Time has come to pass. What took place?
- The Father created the formless Earth & the heavens.
- The Spirit imparted energy to the watery deep.
- The Son (read: the Word) spoke light into existence.
- God separated light from darkness.
- God named the Day & Night.
And that first day wrapped up. During the night, God did not act creatively. In so doing, He was setting up a pattern for who would eventually be His people — work during the day, for the night comes when no man shall work. ((Times were very different before the harnessing of electricity!))
There are many who would make the claim that what is in view here is not a literal 24-hour day, but is instead an indeterminate period of time. This claim is generally made in order to validate the Scriptures in lieu of scientific theory. Fair enough, though it should be noted that is a very pour way to interpret the Scriptures!
Keep in mind that God has already defined for us what the “Day” is — it is when the light is shining! How often does the light of the sun shine on any one point on the planet? Well, it varies depending on where you are, but you’re certainly not going to fit geological ages into those periods of light.
No, these were your typical 24-hour days — complete with mornings and evenings.
It is morning now in this creation account, and we’re ready for the second day to begin and for the second account of the Lord speaking. Stay tuned for verse 6!
Unless otherwise noted, all Scriptures quoted within this post come from the English Standard Version of the Holy Bible.
“Let There Be Light”
“In The Beginning” The Creator(Our Father) said,
“Let There Be Light, and There Was Light”
“The Beginning of The Creation of GOD”
“Let There Be Light”
And the revelation that The Messiah gave unto the
apostle John bore witness to The Truth that The
Messiah, was “The Beginning of the Creation of
GOD(Our Father, Creator of ALL)”! (Rev 3:14)
And The Messiah bore witness to His Brethren
when He testified, “My GOD is your GOD and My
Father(Creator) is your Father(Creator).”(Jn 20:17)
The Messiah testified “I have sent My angel to
you with this testimony for the assemblies. I am
the root and the offspring of David. I am the bright,
Morning Star(Light)”! (Rev 22:16) ) Peter testified
“We have the more sure word of prophecy; and
you do well to take heed, as to a lamp shining in a
dark place, until the day dawns, and The Morning
Star(Light) arises in your hearts.”(2Pt 1:19) “But
you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, HIS own special people, that you
may proclaim the praises of HIM who called you
out of darkness into His marvelous Light.”(1Pt2:9)
And the evening(darkness) and The Morning
(Light) was the First Day.” (Gen 1:5)
“The Beginning of The Creation of GOD”!
It is very important to both know and experience
The Messiah as He Is, Was and always Will Be,
and also to know the “glory He had with Our
Father” before He was born in “the likeness of
sinful flesh”. (John 17:5, Rom 8:3) For what The
Messiah Was and Is, Is that which He will always
Will Be.”The Only Begotten Son” of “Our Father”!
First, let me simply state that I do not believe the
“catholic” and “christian” theo’ry’logical doctrines
concerning “The Only True GOD, Father ALL”. For
they “image”ine a three-headed “god” they call
their “trinity”, or they declare their “christ” to be
their “god and father”, or they believe that The
Messiah was but an exalted messenger(angel)
or prophet.
John The Baptist testified, “And I saw, and bare
record that The Messiah is the Son of GOD(Our
Father).”(John 1:34) Peter testified, “You are The
Messiah, The Son of The Living GOD(Father of
ALL)”!(Matt 16:16) And the Ethiopian eunuch
testified, “I believe that The Messiah is The Son
of GOD(Our Father)”. (Acts 8:37) “Seeing then
that we have a great high priest, that is passed
into the Heavens, The Messiah, The Son of
GOD(Our Father), let us hold fast our profession.”
(Heb 4:14) “These things are written so that you
might believe that The Messiah is The Son of GOD
(Our Father)”. (John 20:31) The Messiah testified
that He was “The Son of GOD”, and that His GOD
was “The Only True GOD(Father of ALL)”.
(John 10:36,17:3)
And The Messiah also testified that He was the
“Son of man” and “The Light of the world”.
(Matt 26:64, John 8:12)
It is needful to believe that The Messiah Was, Is
and always Will Be “The Son of The Living GOD”,
and that there is but “One GOD, HE WHO is
Father of ALL”. (Mat 16:16, Eph 4:6) The Messiah
bore witness to His Brethren when He testified
after being “raised from among the dead”, “My GOD
is your GOD and My Father(Creator) is your Father
(Creator)” (John 20:17)
Is The Messiah’s GOD and Father your GOD
and Father?
Who are The Brethren of The Messiah?
“Let There Be Light”
Once again, It is very important to both know and
experience The Messiah as He Was, Is and always
Will Be. The Messiah simply testified in John 17:5
“And now O Father, glorify Me with YOUR own self
with the glory that I had with YOU before the world
began”.
Prior to that testimony The Messiah had testified,
“Yet a little while is The Light with you. Walk while
you have The Light, lest darkness comes upon
you: for he that walks in darkness does not know
where he goes. While you have Light, believe in
The Light, that you may be the children of Light.”
(John 12:35-36)
And the apostle John testified: “In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and
The Word was GOD. (John did not testify that
The Word is GOD)The same was in the beginning
with GOD. All things were made by Him, and
without Him was not any thing made that was
made. In Him was Life; and The Life was The
Light of men. And The Light shined in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not. There
was a man sent from GOD, whose name was
John. The same came for a witness, to bear
witness of The Light, that all men through Him
might believe. He(John the baptist) was not that
Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
That was the True Light, which enlightens every
man that comes into the world. He(The Messiah)
was in the world, and the world was made by
Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto
His own, and His own received Him not. But as
many as received Him, to them He gave power
to become the sons of GOD, even to them that
believe on His name: Which were born, not of
blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will
of man, but of “The Only True GOD, Father of
ALL”.” (John 1:1-13)
It is needful to realize that The Messiah testified
of “The Only True GOD” in John 17:3, and so it is
that The GOD and Father of The Messiah IS,
WAS and always WILL BE “The Only True GOD”.
“The Only True GOD” is “Father of ALL”.
And “The Father of ALL” is “Our Father”, HE WHO
IS “The Only True GOD” and Father of The Messiah
and His Brethren.
And the apostle John testified in John 3:17-21:
“For Our Father sent not his Son into the world
to condemn the world; but that the world through
Him might be saved. He that believes on Him is
not condemned: but he that believes not is
condemned already, because he has not believed
in the name of the only begotten Son of GOD(Our
Father). And this is the condemnation, that Light is
come into the world, and men loved darkness
rather than Light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that does evil hates The Light,
neither comes to The Light, lest his deeds should
be reproved. But he that does Truth comes to The
Light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that
they are wrought in GOD(Our Father).”
In John 12:34 the people asked, “Who is this Son
of man? Then in John 12:35-36, “The Messiah said
unto them, yet a little while is The Light with you.
Walk while you have The Light, lest darkness come
upon you: for he that walks in darkness does not
know where he goes. While you have Light, believe
in The Light, that you may be the children of Light.
The Messiah spoke these things, and departed,
and hid Himself from them.”
Simply, “In The Beginning” The Only True GOD
spoke The Word, “Let There Be Light”, “And there
was Light”! “And there was evening(darkness) and
there was morning (Light), The First Day”. (Gen 1:5)
Certainly such “Light” was not “natural” light, for
“natural” light, the sun, moon, and stars were not
created until the “fourth day”. (Gen 1:14-19)
“In the beginning”, “The First Day”, The Father of
All created “The Light”, without which Creation and
Life, as we now know and experience it, could not
have been.
The First Day, “The Light”, The Messiah, “The
beginning of the Creation of GOD(HE WHO is
The Only True GOD and Father of ALL)”!
(Gen 1:3, Rev 3:14, John 17:3, Eph 4:6)
And “The Only True GOD” created all “things” by,
through, and for “The Light”, The Messiah, “The
Son of The Living GOD” and “Son of man”.
(Col 1:15, Eph 3:9, Mat 16:16, Mat 12:32)
And “The True Light which enlightens every man
coming into the world”, was born as a child
destined to be The Messiah. (John 1:9, Mat 1:21)
The Messiah, “The Light of the world”.
(John 8:12, 9:5)
The Messiah, “The firstborn of every creature
(all creation)”. (Col 1:15)
The Messiah, “Begotten of Our Father”,
“The firstborn among many Brethren”.
(Heb 1:5) (Ps 2:7) (Rom 8:29)
The Messiah, “A servant of The Only True GOD
(Father of ALL)”. (Isa 42:1-7)
The Messiah, “The Lamb of GOD”.
(John 1:29,36)
The Messiah, “The firstborn from among the dead”.
(Col 1:18)
Once again: “In The Beginning” Our Father, “The
Only True GOD” spoke: “Let there be Light, and
there was Light”! The Messiah, “The Beginning of
the Creation of GOD”, “the firstborn of every
creature(all creation)”. (Gen 1:3, John 17:3,
Rev 3:14, Col 1:15)
Thanks Be To “Our Father”!
The Messiah, The Creation of “The Only True
GOD, Father of ALL”! (Rev 3:14)
The Messiah, “made so much better than the
angels”! (Heb 1:4)
The Messiah, “The Light of the world”!
(John 8:12, 9:5)
“The Lamb of GOD”, “The Light of The New
Heavenly Jerusalem”! (Rev 21:22-23)
Paul experienced “The Light ” on the road to
Damascus. “And it came to pass, that, as I
made my journey, and came near unto
Damascus about noontime, suddenly a great
Light from Heaven shone round about me.
And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice
saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why do you
persecute Me? And I answered, “Who are
You, Master”? And He said unto me, I am
Yehowshuwa'(Yahshua, Joshua) of Nazareth,
Whom you persecute. And they that were
with me saw The Light, and were afraid; but
they did not hear the voice of Him that spoke
to me. And I said, “What shall I do, Master”?
And He said unto me, arise and go into
Damascus, and there you shall be told all
things which are appointed for you to do.
And when I could not see for the glory of
that Light, I was led by the hand into
Damascus.” (Acts 22:6-11)
Paul also testified, “At midday I saw in the
way a Light from Heaven, ABOVE THE
BRIGHTNESS OF THE SUN, shining round
about me and those who journeyed with me.
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I
heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying
in the HEBREW tongue, Saul, Saul, why do
you persecute Me? It is hard for you to kick
against the pricks.” (The Messiah could not
have told Paul, “I am jesus” for He spoke in
the “HEBREW tongue”) (Acts 26:13-14)
Paul saw “The Light” that was The Messiah
and he was blinded(naturally, not Spiritually)
for a time. Now when The Messiah was in
the “likeness of sinful flesh”, born as “the
Son of man”, He could only reflect “The
Light”, liken unto the moon which but reflects
the light of the natural sun.
“Let There Be Light”
The Messiah, “The Light of the world”!
And consider the natural light provided by
the sun, which was Created on the fourth
day. Does not the natural light of the sun
reveal outwardly, all the earthly, natural
things? Consider what happens when
that which you thought was clean is
exposed to the light of the sun? Is not
the least outward particle of uncleanness
readily seen in the light of the sun? And
so it is with “The Light” that is The Messiah.
For His Life, “The Life”, exposes all the
uncleanness in the life that is of The “I” in
all of us! The “I” is the creation of mankind’s
“imag”ination! And “The Light” penetrates
deeply, cleansing even the innermost
recesses of the heart, “rightly dividing the
soul and spirit”!
Yet for such a cleansing to begin one must
“experience The Messiah(The Light) and
The Power that raised Him from among the
dead”!(Php 3:10) Oh, there are many who
know of a “messiah”, yet who has
experienced “The Light”? For “The Light”
was “The Beginning of Creation” both the
old, which was natural and earthly and The
New, which is of The Spirit and Heavenly.
Those who “love this world and it’s things”
yet desire that which “decayed, waxed
old and vanished away” (Heb 8:13) They
are of those “whose ‘god’ is their belly,
and whose glory is in their shame, for
they mind earthly things”. (Phlp 3:19)
Sadly, those who “love this world and it’s
things” yet love darkness more than The
Light and they will abide in the darkness
they loved forever ;-( (1Jn2:15,Jn3:19-20)
Sadder yet, systems of religion that are of
this world, such as “catholicism”, “christianity”,
“judaism”, “islam”, etc., have so perverted
The Testimonies, that today, as in the two
thousand or so, years gone by, “The Way
of Truth is evil spoken of”! All because of
the theo’ry’logical, heretical doctrines that
are of men! And especially those
theo’ry’logical doctrines which seek to
define “The Only True GOD, Father of All”.
(2Peter 2:1-2)
All such doctrines are but the product of
mankind’s “imag”ination and mankind’s
“imag”ination is destroying and perverting
Creation(land, air, water, creatures, Light,
Truth, Love, Peace, Joy, Hope, .etc.)
Yes, sadly ;-( Creation is being destroyed
by self-willed men who could care less
about that which is of The Truth(What Is,
Was, and always Will Be), and care even
less about those things which they can
not comprehend apart from their
“natural” senses and mental processes ;-(
And The Truth testifies, The Creator “will
destroy those who destroy the earth(HIS
Creation)”(Rev 11:18).
Sadly, in this wicked world, those who
seek profit will naturally overcome those
who do not ;-(
Yet, There Is Hope!
For The Life is of The Spirit!
And Miracles do happen!
And Faith rejoices against profit(greed)
and theo’ry’logy(logic)!
Hope is there would be those who experience
The Miracle that is receiving “a love of The
Truth” for they will “see” “The Light”.
(2Thes 2:10, John 8:12, 9:5)
And they will receive peace, in spite of the
dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this world, for
they will clearly “see” that “The WHOLE
world is under the control of the evil one”.
(1John 5:19) And they will clearly “see”
things as they are and not as “imag”inative,
world-loving humans would have others
believe them to be, for they will “see” The
Light that is The Messiah……. francisco
Aha, Francisco! but why see The Light that you claim to be The Messiah if he is not God? If I wanted a mere man to reconcile me to God, I could embrace Judaism or Catholicism openly. Why should the Messiah, be better than a priest of the Old Testament as both are God-instituted means of access to God? The Messiah thus is not exclusively the saviour of the world, IF He IS NOT God.
Further, your “logos”ic does not make any sense. Throughout you add extra-biblical definitions to make your point, many of which are contradictory to clear scriptural teaching. On pain of being redundant I give just one.
“dis-ease(no-peace)” – This definition is against scripture, no matter how etymologically profound it may seem to you. Peace is the result of reconciliation to God, even if my body is decaying as scripture says it is, and nature punctuates for me. ‘All peace’ is in Jesus Christ and is aside from any sickness, circumstance, or idea of this world.
I hate to sound like a killjoy, but regardless of whatever message you are trying to preach, if you are attempting to point out that all Orthodox Christianity is wrong, might I suggest writing using proper English?
It’s difficult to imagine that you’ve come upon a truth unknown to most everyone else in Christendom when you rattle off sentences like, “All religious systems, muslin, jewish, buddhist, catholic, christian ,,etc,, are Anti-Messiah!” and say things like, “‘imag’ined.”
On a more serious note, you’re doing little more than making wild claims without doing a whole lot to substantiate them biblically. You concluded your post with 1 John 5:19, which I assume you were directing at all of us “other” Christians while exempting yourself.
Brandon is absolutely correct — if the Messiah was not God in the flesh, then He would not have mattered. He would have been no more capable of saving mankind than Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Ezekiel, Paul, Buddha, Mohamed, Will Smith, George Washington, or Bozo the Clown.
The Scriptures state, and they do not lie, that in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). Jesus Christ is that Word, and in Him is our only Hope — Hope which I pray you share.
DISCLAIMER: The following testimony is given regarding the religious systems of this wicked world, not individuals. Recorded for revelation, not condemnation, in hopes there would be those who would “see” and “hear”, for all who do so will “come out from among them(this world and it’s systems of religion) and be separate”. They will “Come out of her” indeed and Truth!
“The Way of Truth is evil spoken of” because of pagan “catholicism” and her harlot pagan “christian” daughters ;-( Their “imag”ined “jesus christ” is not The Messiah! It was some five hundred years ago that they named one head of their three-headed pagan “god”, “jesus”, during a time that has been called the “reformation”. Prior to that time there was no “j” sound in the english language…….period…….
Yet the “reformation” was an aptly named time! For it was a time when “catholicism” birthed her harlot “christian” daughters ;-( Her “christian” daughters are of her substance ;-( Her substance was merely “reformed” so that her “christian” daughters might appear a bit differently outwardly, yet inwardly they remained liken unto their pagan harlot mother ;-(
“christianity” is but the byproduct of the fornicative relationship pagan “catholicism” has always had with “the god of this world”, he who is “the father of lies”, he who is “the angel of light”, ‘d’evil spirit that rules over this wicked world ;-(
All religious systems, muslin, jewish, buddhist, catholic, christian ,,etc,, are Anti-Messiah!
Religious systems of this world, all alike they are,
Their captives have fought, killed and died, both near and far ;-(
And then once a week, or multiple times a day they may pray,
Yet as hypocrites they begin each new day ;-(
Days that are filled with deceit and lies,
For in a “religious system” Truth can not abide ;-(
And so the fruit of death is born of religion’s way,
Because life is but a pawn in the wicked game they play ;-(
Faith will not create a religious system!
The Messiah testified of a “wicked world”, and of His disciples being “in, not of, this world”.
John exhorted those who believed “to love not the world or it’s things” for “the WHOLE world is under the control of the evil one”!
And James testified, “whoever is a friend of this world is the enemy of GOD(Father, Great Spirit, Creator,,)”!
Those of this wicked world and it’s religious systems are destroying and perverting Creation and The Creator, Our Father, has promised that HE “will destroy those who are destroying HIS Creation(earth, air, water, creatures, Truth, Love, Peace, .etc.)”!
May there be those who take heed unto The Call of The Only True GOD and “Come out of her, MY people”!
All who heed GOD’s Call will exit “the broadway to destruction” and they will follow The Messiah on “The Way to The Truth of The Life”! They no longer will have their portion with the pagan “catholic” and “christian” LIES, or with any other religious system of this world.
The Messiah testified, “whoever lives and believes in Me(His Teachings and Life example) shall never die.” And then The Messiah questioned, “Do you believe this?” YES!
And you? Do you believe? Or do you believe in death?
While there is breath(spirit) there is hope!
For Miracles Do Happen! Thankfully so!
Hope is that there would be those who “come out” of the “strong delusion” that is the religious systems of this wicked world. Hope is that there would be those who believe in and receive of The Life. Hope is that there would be those who would “experience The Messiah and The Power that raised Him from among the dead”.
Hope is you will, or have experienced The Miracle that is “receiving a love of The Truth”.
All who have “received a love of The Truth” will have:
…….Peace, in spite of the dis-ease(religion) that is of this wicked world…….
“For the WHOLE world is under the control of the evil one”! (1 John 5:19)
I guess I am just confused about who or what you think the Messiah is; you say, “yes, there is hope! for Miracles do happen!” and I cannot help but wonder if you are placing your hope in those miracles?
The hope of Jesus Christ was and is “God with us”; He was Emmanuel, God in the flesh. Separately from Him, there is no hope for eternal salvation — at least none which the Scriptures testify to.
If you want to think ill of Roman Catholicism and various other Christian churches, fine, but you’re not going to convince many Christians of anything if you are not going to engage them at the scriptural level. What biblical reasons can you give for Jesus not being the Messiah?
simply, “christianities” “imag”ined “jesus christ” is Anti-Messiah!
and because of pagan “catholicism”, and her harlot ” christian” daughters, “The Way of Truth is evil spoken of” ;-(
yet, there is hope!
for Miracles do happen!
hope is there would be those who experience The Miracle that is
receiving “a love of The Truth” for they will “see” “The Light” that
is The Messiah!
peace, in spite of the dis-ease(religion) that is of this wicked
world……. francisco
sadly, your “god” is but the colored marks written on a dead tree
in that which this world calls it’s “bible” ;-(
The GOD and Father of The Messiah and His Brethren, HE IS
Alive! And HE yet communes with HIS Children!
As for the “imag”ined “jesus”.
What is the name of The Messiah?
Is it a Greek or a Hebrew name?
Should not a disciple of The Messiah know The Messiah’s
GOD given birth name, and it’s pronunciation, as given by
the angel Gabriel (Luke 1:31), when he prophesied to
Miriam (Mary)?
Or when The Messiah spoke His name from heaven to Paul
on the road to Damascus, what name did He use, since Paul
said that he heard an utterance from His mouth? “And when
we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice SAYING to me
in the HEBREW dialect, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting
Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ And I said,
‘Who are You, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am ??????? Whom
you are persecuting'” (Acts 22:14; 26:14-15). Surely the apostle
Paul was not puzzled over language when told “Arise, and be
baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on The Messiah’s
Name” (Acts 22:16).
What then was the utterance from the mouth of The Messiah
that proclaimed His Name, since it is very clear that HE SPOKE
IN HEBREW? Many names are promoted these days besides
the “christian” name of “jesus”: Y’Shua, Yeshua, Yahshua,
Joshua, Yehoshua and in the Hebrew Yehowshuwa’.
Shouldn’t we be able to know His Name?
“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other
Name under heaven given among men, by which we must be
saved” (Acts 4:12). Should not a man, especially The Son of
GOD and Son of man, be called by the same Name all over
the world?
…….Who is “Iesous”?…….
Hundreds of times in the New Testament the Greek name
Iesous is translated as “Jesus”. But if you have ever read an
older King James Bible you might have noticed something
odd in Acts 7:45. In his speech to the Jewish council,
Stephen refers to the man who led Israel into the earthly
Promised Land as “Jesus”, not Joshua! Is this an error?
Well, yes and no, since the Greek name in verse 45 is Iesous,
the same word translated as “Jesus” everywhere else. However,
Stephen could not possibly have been referring to anyone else
but the leader Joshua who took over after Moses and led the
israelites into the earthly promised land. And immediately
afterwards, in verse 59, Stephen cried out when being stoned,
“Lord ???????, receive my spirit!” Again the name is Iesous in
the Greek. Was Stephen crying out to the historical figure
Joshua, long dead, to save him, or was he calling upon the
Son of GOD, since both names in the Greek are Iesous?
So what does Iesous mean, Jesus or Joshua? Was Stephen,
a man so righteous that heaven opened up at his martyrdom,
was he so overcome by the stress of the moment that he
couldn’t tell a long-dead forefather from The Messiah whom
he saw standing at the right hand of GOD?
…….Jesus or Joshua?…….
Modern translations of the Scriptures, and even recent revisions
of the King James version, have noticed this contradiction and
changed the name in Acts 7:45 to Joshua so that it makes sense.
(The same problem is found in Hebrews 4:8 also.) But where did
these translators get their authority to change the Scriptures?
Is it through integrity and honesty that Iesous is translated “Jesus”,
except when it obviously has to mean Joshua? Or are the traditions
of men so strong that translators can take liberties with the Word
of GOD?
At least the translators of the original King James Version were
consistent enough to translate Iesous as Jesus in Acts 7:45
and Hebrews 4:8 even when it made no sense.
So if the new translations change Jesus to Joshua in Acts 7:45
and Hebrews 4:8, why didn’t they also change Jesus to Joshua
in all the other Scriptures where they found the name Iesous?
In Acts 7:45 the name Iesous is obviously Joshua, and could
not possibly refer to anyone else. Isn’t the name Iesous really
Joshua everywhere it is found?
Isn’t His name really Joshua instead of Jesus? If it would be
tampering with the Scriptures to change Jesus the Savior’s
name back to Joshua, would it not also be tampering with the
Scriptures to change Jesus back to Joshua in Acts 7 and
Hebrews 4? It’s all the same Greek word – Iesous!
We want to know GOD’s mind about these things, because
it doesn’t make sense that the translators would change the
Holy Scriptures in one place and not the other.
Not wishing to disturb tradition, do they hang on to the name
Jesus for the sake of selling bibles? For certain, one thing is
true. Miriam and Yoseph (Mary and Joseph in English) named
the child just as the angel commanded them. Did the angel
speak to them in Hebrew or did the angel speak Greek?
Everything would be more understandable if he had spoken
Greek to them. Then could be that Jesus would have come
out of his mouth and we today pronounce The Messiah’s
name exactly as the angel did. Except that there never has
been a “J” sound in Greek … or Hebrew … or even English
until the 1500’s.
So what is the answer? Why should there be confusion
concerning the Name by which all men could be saved?
Did not GOD reveal to HIS followers the name HE gave
and which was the given name above all given names to
whom every knee shall bow and every tongue confess?
Will all GOD’s people gather around HIS throne someday
and mumble but distorted sounds as if we were gathered
around the tower of Babel? Are we not speaking of the
GOD who longs to speak to the human heart, to save all
men who call upon the name of ??????? ..
?what name?
…….What The Messiah’s Name Means…….
Does the name of the Son of GOD have any meaning other
than as a label? It certainly did to Yoseph: “And you will
name Him ???????, because He will save His people from
their sins” (Matthew 1:21, New Century Version).
If His Name is “Jesus”, this Scripture makes no sense, since
obviously the Name of The Messiah means that He will save
His people from their sins.
But do you know what the name Jesus literally means?
No, you don’t, and neither does anyone else, because it has no
meaning as a word in any language. It is, at best, a mere tag.
We might take a mere tag somewhat lightly, but not the Jews.
When Yoseph and Miriam brought the child to the Temple in
Jerusalem to dedicate Him, they dared not even utter such a
name as Iesous(jesus). The Jewish priests jealously guarded
the holiness of the Temple, and considered Greek to be a
loathsome language.
If Yoseph and Miriam had dedicated their child in a Greek name
it would have been viewed as an abomination, and they would
have been roughly ejected from the Temple! Obviously, this did
not happen, and they performed everything according to the Law
(Luke 2:21-39).
But if the Greek Iesous really is Joshua in Hebrew, the language
that Yoseph, Miriam, and every other Jew spoke including the
Savior Himself, then the angel’s proclamation makes total sense.
Hebrew names in the Bible are always meaningful, and so were
all names until recently, and the name Joshua is even more than
that. The name Joshua is prophetic.
In John 17:11 our Master prayed, “Holy Father, keep them in YOUR
Name, the Name which YOU have given Me, that they may be one,
even as we are.” Since according to the words of the Savior, The
Father’s Name is in His Name, it will help to know the Father’s
Name.
Fortunately this is pretty easy, because the Old Testament was only
written in Hebrew and a number of verses are very clear in proclaim-
ing The Father’s name, such as, “Sing to GOD … whose name is
YAH” (Psalm 68:4). Also the Scriptures are full of the expression
Hallelujah, a phrase very familiar to Christians, but do you know what
it means in Hebrew?
It is actually Hallelu YAH, a command meaning, “Give praise to YAH.”
None of this is secret stuff, for it is found in the marginal readings of
many bibles today; for example, look at Psalms 116:19 in the New
American Standard Bible.
So how do you say the Savior’s name in His language? Well, it would
be Joshua, except that the letter “J” in English was originally a “Y”
sound. So His name, which has His Father’s name in it, is Yahshua.
And it has such a wonderful meaning that both Yoseph and Miriam
marveled over it, because they knew full well what that name meant
in their native Hebrew language.
It means YAH (translated “I Am”, Exodus 3:14) Shua (“mighty and
powerful to save”). So when the angel told this name to them, they
were astounded, for His name was a declaration from The GOD of
Heaven to mankind that there would be born a man who would be
“mighty and powerful to save”.
“And you shall call His name Yahshua, for it is He who will save His
people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
Now that scripture makes total sense.
…….The Weight of Tradition…….
But does it really matter to GOD what name we call The Messiah?
It certainly was important enough for the Savior to cry out during the
last hours before He was betrayed, “Holy Father, keep them in Your
NAME, the Name which YOU have given Me” (John 17:11).
And as stated before, it was clear to the Jews what that name was
and how to pronounce it. HalleluYAH is a universal expression, and
YAH is the universal name of GOD. Yet so great is the weight of
tradition that men have been blindly clinging to a name that has no
meaning and makes the Scriptures mentioned have no meaning,
either.
Can anyone possibly maintain that The NAME of The Father is
somehow incorporated into the name Jesus, or that the name
Jesus means that “He will save His people from their sins”?
Those with “eyes to see”, can see that The Messiah’s GOD
given Name at birth was Yahshua, and if you prefer the modern
day English transliteration of The Messiah’s GOD given birth
Name, then that would be Joshua, in Spirit and Truth…….
The vain “imag”inations of the “catholic” and “christian” systems
of religion have caused “The Way of Truth to be evil spoken of”,
so why continue to use their “imag”ined name for “The Son of
Living GOD”?
As for me, my preference is to call The Messiah, Immanuel, for as the apostle Paul testified, “GOD was IN The Messiah”, Paul did not testify that “god was the messiah”.
Immanuel(GOD with us)! The Messiah in Spirit and Truth…….
And if The Only True GOD is not IN you, then you are not HIS…….
And while there is breath(Spirit) there is hope!
For Miracles do happen!
Hope is there would be those who experience The Miracle that is
receiving “a love of The Truth”, for apart from such a Miracle the words in what this world calls it’s “bible”, remain but “colored marks written on a dead tree”!
Peace, in spite of the dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this wicked world and it’s systems of religon, for “the WHOLE world is under the control of the evil one” indeed and Truth……. francisco
Your position is still unclear to me: Do you or do you not accept the Scriptures as the Word of God? If you do not, upon what basis do you claim He who was called Emmanuel as the Messiah? If you do, then how do you translate the verses in which most versions have “Jesus”?
Also, if using “Jesus” is wrong as it’s only a “tag,” how do you get away with calling God “God”? At best it is just a title, His actual name being shrouded in great mystery. In that your position is *very* inconsistent, especially if you do not accept the Messiah as God: If what the Messiah is called is so important to you, how much more so should you be careful about what you call God!
Also, it seems as though you have copied and pasted several portions of that comment from elsewhere; whether you wrote those or not, copy/pasting does not make for very interesting discussions; if you are not willing to take the time to write personal responses, then I have little interest in carrying on the conversation. Perhaps you could find more willing (and knowledgeable) participants in #prosapologian?
One word Rick,
“In””Genius””(Loch)”Ness”.
That’s all.
